Tuna coin from Akanthos

Silver Tetradrachm minted in Akanthos, Macedonia c. 470-430 BC, featuring lion attacking bull (over fish)

I just want to add few bits which might make this beautiful coin more interesting...

The fish depicted at the bottom of the coin is tuna...

There are four main species of tuna fish that spawn in Mediterranean sea, and they all seem to spawn during the same time of the year which is also the best time to catch these fishes...

Bullet tuna. The spawning season last from June to September peaking at the beginning of August...

Bluefin tuna. The spawning season lasts from May to August with spawning peaks, depending on weather and oceanographic conditions during the months of June and July...

Little tunny. The spawning season lasts between May and September, but the most intensive spawning occurs between July and August...

Albacore (long fin) tuna. The spawning season lasts from June or July through late August...

The fishing season for all these tunas either peaks of starts around the end of July, beginning of August...The end of summer (symbolised by a bull) and the beginning of autumn (symbolised by a lion)...

I talked about animal symbols of the seasons in my post "Symbols of the seasons"

In Jul/Aug, at the moment when autumn (lion) ends (kills) summer (bull) is the time to fish for tuna???
