I am from czech republic, you are from serbia, dont you hear our word for language = jazyk in czech. As our ancestors used slovane probably because we all are speaking with using of inteligible words = slova. I feel something similar in case of jazyges. Latinised form of some self description of peaople who speak with jazyk. But, I do think that the Pope was sufficiently far removed from the reality and that Vatican histories had enough incentives over the years to twist and edit their narratives to reflect theological agendas (probably more than one), that the reliability of their accounts is questionable. I don't know whether or not his account was accurate.
